Laurel Heights Church Of Christ
2nd & Tamarack
McAllen, 78501

Our simple purpose is to worship and obey God in the way He has instructed in His Word. With Jesus Christ at the center of our work and with the New Testament as our guide, we believe this emphasis meets the real spiritual and moral needs of man.

We are composed of a group of Christians who are seeking to practice New Testament Christianity. We accept the Bible as the Word of God, the New Testament as our sole standard of authority, and Jesus Christ as Lord. This church recognizes Jesus Christ as its head, and is independent of all other churches or organizations. The church is overseen by elders and served by an evangelist.

Each Lord's day (Sunday) we meet at 9:30 a.m. for a period of intensive Bible study. We have classes for every age group, including provisions for children. At 10:20 a.m. and 5 p.m. we assemble for a period of worship to God. During these services we sing songs of praise to God and study His Word. Each Lord’s Day, Christians  observe the Lord's Supper, make a voluntary offering to support the work of the church. In these assembles we pray, read the Bible and preach the gospel.

We ask you to consider how these passages from the Word of God show us how we should respond to God:

The sinner must hear, believe and obey the gospel. The human problem is sin, transgressing God’s law (Rom. 3:23; 1 John 3:4). Living in sin alienates us from God and set us on a pathway to eternal misery (Isa. 59:2; Matt. 25:46). Jesus Christ came to save us: “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jno. 1:29). To personally receive the salvation Jesus died for you to have, you must hear this message, believe in Him and obey Him. “…He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,” (Heb. 5:9). Believing in Him and confessing that belief, you must respond as directed by God through the apostles: “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…,” (Acts 2:38; 8:37,38). You are baptized into Christ, and with that act of faith, God accepts you into His church (Gal. 3:26,27; 1 Cor. 12:13; Acts 2:47). We strongly recommend that you read these passages in their individual contexts, to “find out whether these things” are so (Acts 17:11).

The new Christian must abide in the teaching of Christ. After your baptism into Christ, you must abide in Him, giving heed to His instructions. Those “who gladly received his word were baptized” on the day of Pentecost, and “they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine,” (see Acts 2:41,42). Christians formed local churches in places like Jerusalem, Ephesus, Corinth, Rome, Philippi and other locations named in the New Testament. In these local churches, they worshipped in spirit and in truth; they took the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week; contributed; sang and gave their attention to the Word of God (Jno. 4:24; Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:1-2; Eph. 5:19; Heb. 10:25; Col. 4:16). In daily life, Christians are to “walk and to please God,” by keeping the “commandments” given “through the Lord Jesus,” (1 Thess. 4:1,2).
